Stages of karting

Karting, as all motorsport enthusiasts know, is the grassroots of motorsport.
From a very young age of 4 years old, children can start karting in a 35cc or 50cc 'puffo' kart. During the years with the 'puffo' kart, children learn the basic concepts of handling and speed. No competition is held, as till the age of 6, its always non-competitive.

From 6 years, children switch to mini kart, which is a different frame and a bigger engine, which is 60cc. The driver can now compete in the Entry Level Class. This is made out of children age 6-8 with a 60cc restricted engine.

From 8 till 12 years, children compete in the 60cc class, which is the same engine and chassis as the entry level, but without the restrictors and a different carburetor.

At 12 years, the driver can make the big step, getting into a big kart. He/she can now drive a full sized chassis powered by a restricted 125cc engine. At this age, driver competes in the Junior 125cc class. In the championship, this class is sometimes made of mixed engines, however, if there are many drivers of the same brand of engine, races may be done with the same branded engines only.

At 15years, the driver can choose which category he wants to compete in. There are now no more restrictions related to age.  The driver can now choose between a variety of single gear karts or the KZ kart, which is a 6-speed gearbox engine.
